1. Lock one position each round
Each game uses five basketball positions: PG, SG, SF, PF and C. All open positions spin with eligible players from the current live Top 50. Choose one player to lock. The remaining positions spin again, creating a 5 → 4 → 3 → 2 → 1 decision sequence until your lineup is complete.
2. Understand Game Value
Game Value is deliberately simple and is separate from a player's Baseline Rating or live GOAT Rating. It follows current rank within the live Top 50:
Rank #2 = 99 points
…
Rank #50 = 51 points
Game Value = 101 − live rank
This means voting and ranking changes can eventually affect the values available in future games without changing the ranking model itself.
3. Use your free re-spin strategically
You receive one free re-spin per game. It rerolls every position that is still open while keeping already-locked players in place. If you save it for the final position, the game waits for you to choose whether to keep that player or re-spin.
4. Chase 470 — or the current perfect score
Your five Game Values are added together. A total of 470 or higher earns GOAT status. The perfect score is calculated dynamically from the live Top 50 and represents the highest legal lineup containing one eligible PG, SG, SF, PF and C with no player used twice. As live rankings move, that perfect score can move too.
5. Earn and use GOAT Votes
Gameplay also builds your vote bank. Every 200 cumulative gameplay points earns one GOAT Vote. Votes can be spent in head-to-head matchups, where the community chooses which player has the stronger all-time case.
6. Follow the live rankings
The Top 75 can appear in the voting and ranking system. The Top 50 are active in the five-player game. The leaderboard is not a direct copy of game scores: Baseline Rating, fan results and Game Value serve different purposes.
