GOAT Chaser is a basketball ranking game built around one of sports’ longest-running questions: who belongs at the top of the all-time list? The site combines a five-player team-building game with a transparent historical ranking model and head-to-head fan voting.
In the game, players are drawn from the live Top 50. Their Game Value is based on current leaderboard position: the No. 1 player is worth 100 points, No. 2 is worth 99, and the scale continues through No. 50 at 51 points. Build a five-player lineup and reach 470 points to earn GOAT status. The perfect score is dynamic: it is the highest total currently possible with one eligible PG, SG, SF, PF and C from the live Top 50, with no player used twice.
Historical foundation
Every player begins with a career-based model rating that evaluates achievements, production, longevity, defense and era context. This establishes the baseline before community voting has meaningful influence.
Head-to-head votes influence the live GOAT Rating, but they do not instantly replace the historical baseline. Fan influence grows as a player accumulates matchup data and is capped at 70% once confidence reaches the full 400-matchup threshold.
All five positions begin with a live Top-50 option. Lock one player, then the remaining four positions spin again. Continue through four, three, two and the final position. You receive one free re-spin per game that rerolls every still-open position. Your five rank-based Game Values are added for the final score, and cumulative gameplay points earn GOAT Votes.
The live leaderboard can move as new head-to-head results are recorded. Close matchups are used to make votes more informative, while the historical component prevents a small number of votes from creating extreme changes.
The ranking is designed as a structured sports debate rather than a claim that one formula can settle every era comparison. Historical accomplishments provide a consistent starting point; community voting adds the current fan perspective. The methodology is published so players can see what is included, understand what changes the rating, and disagree with the rankings on informed terms.
